Getting to know ones-self:
1A) Identifying the voice of the mind/ brain/ ego… the Self. You cannot know the self without knowing the other.
The brain/mind voice has been in total control since birth, we all know this voice as reason, critic, the judger, it can be difficult to identify. Some know this voice as one of the two characters on our shoulders: On one side is the devil and on the other side is the angel. Know it or not, we have an internal dialogue between the two. Even though we have many clues in our speech and references, to these two, those clues will be noticed more as we go through this course.
The voice of the mind is inventive, it needs to be for all the issues of the body and how to resolve those issues. But also, the mind is working to maintain a safe place for its physical form, though in this case without you it is survival. The mind works in reason, assumption, anticipation, possible outcomes, comparisons, right, wrong, and imagination, all based on judgments. The mind really gets fired up in fear and wanting or desiring to be seen as ok, this is where the self is created.
This is how I see the beginning and the way it becomes an enclosed and continual loop, or our history repeating itself like a bad habit! When we come into this world, we notice that we think differently than everyone, we doubt ourselves, this is one of the first judgments or thoughts. Then we say, “well if everyone is behaving in these ways, “I must be wrong and I need to change” because I am afraid of being discovered and of course, I don’t want to be discovered, I don’t want to be wrong!” I now have a desired outcome and that desired outcome is to hide and not be found out. I cannot be me or real, this is where our story begins in childhood. Most of our relationships begin in this very same way, so this is a good place to notice what is happening in our heads and its thoughts…” with our relationships.” This is also saying if anything goes wrong whatever that is, it must be my fault because I am the only one wrong! This is how everything becomes our fault, and why we blame our-selves for almost everything. After all, we are wrong… right! What makes an issue an issue, is it not our thought?
2A) Learning the voice of the mind can help you change that voice or to be more exact, the mind's thoughts and reactions.
Awareness of the voice, what it is, and how it works is a major key in our practice of awakening or I should say, remembering. The voice of the mind was truly triggered from not knowing our identity, our doubt. These are the three main actuators triggered by our doubt. Fear, want (As in, the desired outcome or wanting something other than what is.), and judgment.
The want is a branch of the first want/desire. Have you ever been doing something, and you really didn’t want to be doing that something, though you did want to be doing something else? Have you noticed how you get confused and then frustrated and then if things didn’t happen how you’ve been wanting, you became angry? Have you noticed this is the pattern for almost all our issues? This is a pattern carried over from childhood and amplified through our repetitive reactions like a habit.
Doubt is the beginning of the judgments. As we come into this world, we have no awareness of a prior existence, and we now have a partner. That partner is our physical form, that form has a bio-computer maintaining the systems of the body. That bio-computer is the mind, brain, and ego and the mind's voice is louder than the allowing being's voice because love is not forceful. The mind learns from our reactions and creates a chemical response, it then recreates these sensations attaching those sensations to reason, and the mind then becomes responsive to those feelings. We can confuse these as emotions. This is our autopilot; the mind responds to its own thought causing a chemical reaction that the mind then responds to again, and we just happen to be there, along for the ride.
For example jealousy, envy, anger, and our reactions are caused by those thoughts that are assumed and abstract, where our chemical reactions run away with us. Then, somehow at the end of it all we ask the question,” what made me do that? or say that?” The mind, brain, and ego, is our reactor, our defender, our trigger, and our knee jerk and they are all based on possible or assumed outcomes with the chemical reaction to those thoughts, that causes yet another reaction. Though those reactions are not based on any kind of reality, they are based in old sensations. (Memories, that are still thoughts, felt, and unknown.)
My partner in life has been picking on me my whole life
and this partner was trained by me without my knowledge,
this partner of mine is my mind, not I!
Our minds are an incredible tool more powerful than anything known to exist. Without our essence “You” the world would be in a much worse place, though if we do not realize our identity, our robotic responses will eventually destroy humanity.
When we look and examine all the life forms, we see that all life emits the same energy, and all life supports all life. This is our connection to and the oneness of all life, we are all the same essence, energy. When something is suffering, we all feel it, though we could reason our way out of that feeling. So now, when we look at gender differences, we notice that a women can communicate more about what moves them and what they are feeling. Men on the other hand are told they must reason; they cannot be a feeling being, that would be weak and not masculine. It is in this small distinction where all our issues arise. Since we are, notice the words “we are,” allowing and feeling beings, what gender is more oppressive to themselves?
How are they oppressive? Isn’t it that we need to hide? How do we hide? Let me just throw this out there, we act like we don’t feel, we act tough, we act strong. And, at the base of it all, is our fear of what people will say and how they will be towards us.
This is not the only issue, though I was attempting to point out that our fears and the judgment of ourselves in not wanting to be discovered are the cycle that continues to repeat itself all happening at the same time, in an instant in our minds. All to hide innocence, love, your essence, you! And then create the illusion of you, a lie!
To me the most important tool for identifying the voice of the mind is meditation.
1A) Meditation: Meditation for me is about clearing, rebooting, and receiving! Turning the mind off is something that doesn’t happen without intention. Most go through life being kicked around by their own mind and their ideas without the slightest bit of awareness that it is their own tool making that happen. They say “I cannot get out of my own way” not realizing it is not them, but it is their mind. So, noticing how the mind works and letting thoughts go without our reaction to those thoughts begins to give us a sense of our identity and power.
To me, and in my research of thinking, the only true issue we have is “getting out of our own way,” “as we say.” In these teaching’s what we have considered is that “we are not getting in our own way” our mind and its thoughts are! We are beginning to master our physical form or master our craft, vestal, our body! The difference is if we are not the tool, then practicing, the noticing of thoughts is the most important. Meditation in my opinion is about noticing thoughts and becoming nonresponsive to thoughts. Also, meditation is for noticing how the mind tries to find new ways to “begin thinking again” and, from where “Fear, want or judgment or?” Something else I would also like you to notice is…” what is noticing those thoughts?” The mind will not watch its own thoughts or change its own thinking. When thought stops, and it does, there is a whole new information stream that opens. Some call this stream magic, source, God, the Akashic records, or even your essence! This information stream provides a whole new selection of choices and possibilities for this life. We start to become unlimited, and the more we practice silencing the mind the easier the connection is to that stream. Even though we might think this practice is unnatural, the mind will begin to refocus on the body, it may even begin to clear up some of those unwanted issues. The single most important thing you can do for you, is to quiet your mind, the mind has not been silenced since birth, except for maybe the occasional campfire! Then notice, how almost everything begins changing in a positive way.
There are many versions of what is called meditation though the goal is to stop thinking and just be. Then you will be love expressed! Even the repetitive Ohm, will need to be stopped to go deeper because the Ohm requires thought. Meditation is about clearing and then receiving.
